Malaria Risk Travel Information

Indonesia & Java: You may require antimalarial drugs depending on the area visited or passing through.

If you are visiting Papua ( Irian Jaya ) or Lombok the risk is substantial and you will require either Lariam ( Mefloquine ), Doxycycline or Malarone.

For Rural areas you will need Paludrine/Avloclor ( Proguanil plus Chloroquine ) as the preferred antimalarials.

For Bali, cities and tourist resorts ( including cities on islands of Java and Sumatra )  the risk is very low,  adopt bite avoidance procedures.

For Borneo:  If visiting Sabah, except low risk in Kota Kinabalu you will require Lariam ( Mefloquine ), Doxycycline or Malarone.

For deep forested areas of Sarawak you will require Paludrine/Avloclor, but for all other areas of Sarawak and Kota Kinabalu bite avoidance measures will be adequate.

 If visiting Kalimantan you will require Paludrine/Avloclor as the preferred anti-malarial.
