Insect repellents are products that can be applied to the exposed skin. A repellent will make your skin unattractive for biting insects. The smell of the active ingredient (i.e. DEET or a natural active ingredient) is highly unpleasant for the insect however hardly noticeable and not harmful for humans. This smell will distort the sensors of the insect, resulting in the insect detouring to another victim. For the best result the repellent has to be applied sparingly and evenly on the exposed skin. The efficacy of the repellent is determined by the active ingredient. The longevity is determined by the percentage used active ingredient. The lower the concentration, the more often you will have to re-apply.
