The eastern inland areas of Sabah and inland forested areas of Sarawak (including Sepilok) are high risk and require prescription only anti-malarials of either Atovoquone and Proguanil Generic, Malarone, Doxycycline or Lariam.
The coastal areas of Sabah( including Kota Kinabulu) and Sarawak are low risk and require bite avoidance measures.

Most probably you will try new foods on your trip, and though you should only drink bottled water, it is always good to have medications with you in case you run into stomach trouble or get diarrhea.
