Malaria Risk & Vaccination Information for Cambodia

There is a high risk of Malaria in the north and east areas of Preah Vihear, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri and Mondolkiri. These are areas close to Laos and Vietnamese borders.

There is low to no risk of Malaria in Phnom Penh, other main cities, Angkor Wat, Siem Reap and close to Tonle Sap. No antimalarial are usually needed for these areas.

There is a low risk of Malaria in the rest of Cambodia and antimalarial are not usually advised however they may be considered by travellers at higher risk or with higher risk itineraries such as long stays in rural areas, those visiting or staying with friends and relatives, travellers with medical conditions or those with a compromised immune system.

What Malaria prophylaxis do I need to prevent malaria in Cambodia?

If you are travelling to or through the risk areas in Cambodia, you will need malarial medicine.
