Malaria Risk & Vaccination Information
What is the risk of malaria in Laos?
Malaria risk is present throughout the year in all areas except the provinces of Bokeo, Houaphanh and in Vientiane. Risk is highest in the provinces of Attapeu, Champasak, Salavan, Savannakhet and Kekong.
Low to No Risk Areas - If solely staying in the capital Vientiane.
Antimalarials are advised in Laos if visiting high risk areas. If visiting LOW or No Risk areas then antimalarials are not usually advised, but can be considered in groups of travellers who are immunocompromised, have chronic medical conditions, are visiting friends and family, staying in rural areas, or do not have a spleen. Please remember to also follow bite avoidance measures in all areas.
