Malaria Risk & Vaccination Information for Malaysia

(H2)What is the risk of malaria in Malaysia?

There is risk in Peninsula Malaysia deep forest areas (including Taman Negara National Park) where Atovaquone & Proguanil, Lariam & Doxycycline anti-malarials are the preferred choice. You will need to obtain a prescription from either ourselves or your doctor to purchase these medicines.

All other areas including the Cameron Highlands, Kuala Lumpur and Penang are very low risk, but you need to adopt the bite avoidance regime.

What Malaria prophylaxis do I need to prevent malaria in Malaysia?

To avoid malaria in Malaysia you will need to adhere to the bite prevention advice, and take anti malarials if you are travelling in or through a high risk area. You will need a prescription for this medication, obtained from your GP or through our online consultation service.
