Diphenhydramine hydrochloride, an antihistamine that helps to dry nasal secretions.
Levomenthol is included to relieve stuffiness and to ease breathing.
What Is A Chesty Cough?
Chesty coughs, also known as productive coughs are coughs where phlegm or mucous is expelled. The origin of the mucous may be from the sinuses, this is known as catarrh or from the bronchioles deep in the lungs. A cough syrup for a chesty cough, like Benylin Chesty Cough should help loosen or break up the mucus.
How To Take Benylin Chesty Cough Original:
Adults and Children over 12 years: Two 5ml spoonfuls to be taken up to four times a day.
DO NOT take more than 4 doses in 24 hours.
DO NOT give to children under 12 years old.

Each 5ml dose of Benylin Chesty Original Contains:
Diphenhydramine hydrochloride 14mg and Levomenthol 2mg per 5ml dose.
Also Contains: Liquid Glucose, Sucrose, Ethanol, Glycerol, Sodium Citrate, Saccharin Sodium, Citric Acid Monohydrate, Sodium Benzoate (E211), Ammonium Chloride, Caramel T12 (E150), Raspberry Flavour (Benzyl Alcohol, E1520 Propylene Glycol, Ethanol), Carbomer, Ponceau 4R (E124), Water.
Product Warnings
Who Should Not Use Benylin Chesty Coughs Original?
This medicine should not be used by the following groups of patients:
- If you are allergic to any of the ingredients
- If you are taking, or have taken in the last two weeks, drugs for depression known as Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors (MAOIs)
- If you are asthmatic
- Suffer with Glaucoma or prostate problems
- Children under 12 years of age
Avoid alcoholic drink when taking Benylin Chesty Coughs Original.
Driving and Using Machinery:
This medicine can affect your ability to drive. Do not drive whilst taking this medicine until you know how this medicine affects you. It may be an offence to drive when taking this medicine if your ability to drive safely is affected. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure whether it is safe for you to drive while taking this medicine. Can I Use Benylin Dry Coughs Syrup If I Am Pregnant or Breastfeeding?
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

This medicine is available to buy over the counter.
