An orange flavoured, chewable, single-dose tablet for the treatment of threadworm (pinworm) in adults and children.
Ovex Tablets contain the active ingredient Mebendazole (an anthelmintic) which works by preventing worms from absorbing sugars that are essential for their survival.
Threadworm is a contagious infection which can affect the whole family. If you are suffering from threadworm and need a solution that will work for everyone in your household, Ovex is available in packs of one tablet, a pack of four tablets or the liquid suspension which will give you 6 doses.
What Is Threadworm?
Threadworm is a type of infection that affects your digestive system. It happens when you come into contact with threadworm eggs and swallow them. The eggs will then hatch into tiny, thread-like worms your gut and begin to lay more eggs around your anus.
What Are The Symptoms of Threadworm?
- White worms in your faeces which look like strings of white thread.
- Itching around the anus, especially at night.
- Irritability.
- Waking up during the night.
- Weight loss.
- Wetting the bed.
- Irritation around the anus.
General Threadworm Advice:
To ensure that you and your family do not infect others or re-infect yourselves, you should also follow the hygiene measures listed below for at least six weeks:
- Keep nails short.
- Discourage nail biting or finger sucking.
- Wear pyjamas or underclothes in bed.
- In the mornings, wash thoroughly around the bottom.
- Provide a towel for the exclusive use of each member of the household.
- Change clothes regularly.
- Regularly wash and iron bed linen.
- Thoroughly wash hands and nails after using the toilet and before each meal.
Directions For Use:
Adults and Children over 2 years: One tablet, per family member, to be chewed or swallowed as a single dose.
DO NOT give to children under 2 years of age.
DO NOT exceed the stated dose.
Where a worm infection is suspected, all members of the household should be treated.
You must talk to a doctor if you do not feel better or if you feel worse after a few days.
If you are re-infected your pharmacist may recommend that a second tablet is taken after two weeks.
Contains:
Active Ingredient: Mebendazole 100mg per tablet.
Also Contains: Microcrystalline cellulose, sodium starch glycollate, talc, maize starch, sodium saccharin, magnesium stearate, cottonseed oil – hydrogenated, orange flavour, colloidal anhydrous silica, sodium laurilsulfate and orange yellow S (E110).
Pack contains 4 single dose tablets.

What Side Effects Could I Expect?
Like all medicines, Ovex can cause side-effects, although not everybody gets them.
If you experience any of the following, stop using the medicine and seek immediate medical help:
Common: (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
- Stomach pain
Uncommon: (may affect up to 1 in 100 people):
- Stomach discomfort
- Diarrhoea
- Wind
Can I Use Ovex If I Am Pregnant or Breastfeeding?
DO NOT take this medicine if you are pregnant. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine if you are breastfeeding.
Can I Buy Ovex Over The Counter?
This medicine is available to buy over the counter. You do not need a prescription to buy Ovex but you will be asked some questions about your medical health when you add it to your basket. Our pharmacist will check your consultation prior to despatch to ensure it is safe and appropriate for you.
