Robitussin is a pleasant tasting cough syrup which relieves dry, irritating, unproductive coughs.

It also helps to soothe discomfort caused by coughing and the soothing effect can last up to 8 hours.

What is a dry cough?

A dry cough is a non-productive cough, which means there is no phlegm or mucus produced.

Your body will automatically cough as there is something irritating your airways, for example, an allergy.

Can this be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

It is advised you speak with your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Who is it suitable for?

Robitussin is suitable for adults and children over the age of 12 years.

Direction for use

Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years: One 10ml measure up to 4 times a day.

Who is it not suitable for?

Before you take this medicine, do not take if:

  • You have any allergies to the ingredients listed below.
  • You are currently taking medication to treat depression, Parkinsons, anxiety. See full list on the patient information leaflet attached.


Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, : Glycerol, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose, sodium benzoate, disodium edetate, maltitol (E965), ethanol, citric acid anhydrous, amaranth (E123), caramel (E150), levomenthol, cherry/grenadine flavour, sorbitol solution 70%, sodium cyclamate, acesulfame potassium salt, purified water.

Side effects

Like all medicines, Robitussin has got side effects however not everyone will experience these.

If you experience the following stop taking the medicine and contact your doctor:

  • Allergic reaction.
  • Stomach upset.
  • Dizziness, drowsiness.
  • Confusion.


Keep out of sight and reach of children.

Do not give to children under the age of 12.

For oral use only.
